Erik Grönwall's departure from Skid Row marked a poignant moment in the rock music scene, underscored by a complex interaction of personal health priorities and professional commitments. Grönwall, who rose to fame with Skid Row, had been living with a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia since 2021. Despite battling the disease effectively, the demands of touring with a high-energy rock band such as Skid Row presented a significant challenge, leading to his eventual exit announced in March 2024.

In interviews, Grönwall expressed a profound affection for his time with Skid Row, describing it as one of the most fulfilling chapters in his career. He noted that waking up as the lead singer of a band he admired was a dream; however, the demands of the road conflicted with what he needed for his health. Grönwall proposed a compromise in the form of a revised touring schedule to allow for recovery time between shows, a suggestion that unfortunately didn't align with the band's existing touring strategy.

Despite leaving Skid Row, Grönwall did not plan to step away from music altogether. With newfound independence, no longer tethered to a record label, Grönwall embraced his role as an artist from his home base in Sweden. Free from the pressures of a record label, he began working on new material with the intent of releasing music independently or potentially starting a new band. For Grönwall, this pathway offered a creative liberty and flexibility, particularly in light of his health considerations.

Grönwall's departure left Skid Row at an intriguing juncture. Shortly after his exit, the band proceeded with shows, including notable performances with friend Lzzy Hale of Halestorm stepping in for a temporary stint. The band members expressed mixed emotions, acknowledging the productive period they shared with Grönwall and respecting his decision to leave.
