Jack Osbourne and Wife Aree Welcome Baby Daughter Ozzy Matilda
Less than eight months after the world lost one of rock ‘n' roll's greatest icons, the Osbourne family has found a way to bring his name back into the light.
Jack Osbourne, son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, and his wife Aree Gearhart have announced the arrival of their daughter Ozzy Matilda Osbourne, born on March 5 and weighing 7 pounds and 4 ounces. The couple made the announcement on Wednesday via a joint Instagram post with a caption that cut straight to the heart: “Introducing Ozzy Matilda Osbourne.”
The newborn was photographed sleeping alongside a stuffed bat plushie, an apparent nod to the infamous 1982 concert incident in which the elder Ozzy bit the head off a bat while performing onstage. Even in its most tender moment, this family never loses its sense of theatre.
The timing of the birth carries a weight that no name alone could fully express. Ozzy Osbourne died of a heart attack on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, just weeks after the landmark Back to the Beginning farewell concert in Birmingham, a charity event with Black Sabbath that raised more than $11 million for children's charities and Parkinson's research.
Jack, 40, had spoken openly about how the pregnancy had become something of a lifeline for the family during their grief. “It's been partly a healthy distraction, partly healing,” he told The Sun on Sunday when the pregnancy was announced last December. “It's very much taken energy out of the grieving side of things and parked it in a bit more hopefulness.”
Crucially, Ozzy Osbourne knew he was going to have another grandchild before he passed away. Jack described it as a moment that carried profound meaning, a final thread of continuity between father and the granddaughter he would never get to hold.
Ozzy Matilda is Jack's fifth daughter. He and Aree are also parents to Maple Artemis, born in July 2022, while Jack has three daughters from his first marriage to Lisa Stelly: Pearl, 13, Andy Rose, 10, and Minnie Theodora, 7.
The reaction from fans online was immediate and emotional. “The most perfect name she could have ever received!! I am sure her birth is what everyone's heart needed,” wrote one follower. “Awwww I know Ozzy is one proud papa! Welcome to the world little one,” added another.
It is, in many ways, the kind of story the Osbournes have always told best, chaotic and loving in equal measure, steeped in legacy, and refusing to let grief have the final word. The Prince of Darkness may be gone, but as of March 5, his name has found a new home: seven pounds, twelve ounces, and 19 inches long, sleeping soundly beneath a stuffed bat.
Ozzy Osbourne was also honored at the Grammy Awards last month, where Post Malone led a tribute performance of Black Sabbath's “War Pigs” alongside Slash, Duff McKagan, and Chad Smith, and at the BRIT Awards, where Robbie Williams and Zakk Wylde paid their respects. The tributes, it seems, are only just beginning.
Ozzy Matilda Osbourne was born March 5, 2026.
