Mikkey Dee, the famed drummer of Motörhead and current member of Scorpions, recently overcame a life-threatening battle with sepsis. This condition, which occurs when the body's response to an infection causes damage to its tissues, had intensified to the point where Dee felt he was “a day away from playing drums with Lemmy in heaven.”

The drummer’s ordeal began during the holiday season when a sprained ankle unexpectedly escalated into a critical medical emergency. His ankle swelled and became discolored, resembling an “overcooked ham,” as Mikkey described. This alarming development prompted immediate hospitalization at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. There, doctors discovered that his condition was grave, with alarmingly high levels that prioritized his case for urgent medical intervention.

At the hospital, Dee underwent multiple surgeries to remove the infected and dead tissue from his ankle. His health journey was precarious, marked by this intense medical intervention that included three surgeries. “They cut away what was dead and infected and badly infested. It was not a good journey I was on,” said Dee, reflecting on his close brush with death. This timely medical care was crucial in stabilizing his condition.

Mikkey Dee spent three weeks in the hospital, receiving exceptional care, as he gratefully shared on his social media platforms. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Gothenburg hospital who played a significant role in his recovery. “Thanks a million to all the doctors and nurses that have been giving me the most excellent care,” he wrote, highlighting the gratitude for the medical team’s efforts.

Despite the severity of his condition and the daunting recovery process ahead, Dee remains optimistic and determined to return to his musical endeavors. As he recuperates, he is set on preparing for Scorpions' upcoming Las Vegas residency to celebrate their 60th anniversary. Mikkey declared his commitment to recovery and his eagerness to reconnect with fans, saying, “Now I'm working 100% to be back on the drum stool for the residency that starts off in Las Vegas on February 27.”

The rocker’s near-death experience with sepsis has not only been a personal health scare but also a poignant reminder of the fragility of life. Dee's allusion to potentially joining his late bandmate Lemmy Kilmister, Motörhead's iconic frontman who passed away in December 2015, also resonated with fans around the world.

For those closely following Motörhead and Scorpions’ timelines, Mikkey Dee’s resilience is emblematic of his commitment to music and the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. With a full recovery on the horizon, Dee is poised to overcome this challenge and continue contributing to the world of heavy metal drumming with the same vigor and passion that have defined his illustrious career.
