The Southern California metalcore band, As I Lay Dying, is on the cusp of an extensive European tour slated for October and November 2025, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal third album, Shadows Are Security. Titled “An Evening With As I Lay Dying,” the tour promises not just renditions of tracks from this iconic album but also favorites from their extensive discography. For fans of metalcore and As I Lay Dying, this tour marks a significant milestone, embracing nostalgia while confronting the present challenges the band is facing.

The tour launches in Russia, with a debut performance scheduled at the Stadium Live Club in Moscow on October 30th. It continues to several major cities across Europe, including Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, and Würzburg, finally concluding in Heerlen, Netherlands, on November 14th. Although the performance schedule promises a rich collection of their music, the uncertainty looms large over the lineup. The band has recently endured a turbulent period following the departure of all its members except the founding member and lead singer, Tim Lambesis. This shift came in the wake of public controversies involving Lambesis, raising questions about who will join him on stage for this momentous journey.

Despite Lambesis’s controversies, including a conviction for a murder-for-hire plot against his first wife back in 2014, and more recent allegations of domestic and animal abuse, the relentless frontman appears committed to reviving As I Lay Dying. Yet, the band’s dynamics have certainly changed. In late 2024, the band was poised to embark on their “Through Storms Ahead” tour, but the collective exits of guitarist Phil Sgrosso, drummer Nick Pierce, guitarist Ken Susi, and bassist Ryan Neff led to its cancellation. Promoters like TuskaLive and Grey Beard verified the cancellation to the dismay of fans anticipating the live performance.

Now, with the 2025 tour facilitating the return of As I Lay Dying, many are watching to see how Lambesis navigates these uncharted waters. As the sole remaining member, he faces the daunting task of not only recruiting new talent but also convincing a divided fanbase of his and the band's redemption narrative. The upcoming tour—scheduled amid persistent international tensions due to Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict—adds another complex layer to As I Lay Dying’s European campaign. This choice uniquely positions the band amidst geopolitical debates—a scenario many Western artists have deliberately avoided by skipping performances in Russia.

The framing of the tour as an extensive engagement with deep cuts from As I Lay Dying’s repertoire seeks to revive and perpetuate the musical legacy established with Shadows Are Security. This album is credited with helping define the metalcore genre in the mid-2000s. However, with the band's storied controversies, the tour is as much about reconciliation and redemption as it is about celebratory nostalgia. With fans still processing the band’s internal upheaval and the ethical implications of supporting Lambesis, the tour could be pivotal.

The evolving lineup remains one of the central mysteries fueling interest and speculation around the tour. Operating under new management from FM Music Management, As I Lay Dying's trajectory could shape the future of metalcore, illustrating how art interacts with artist controversies. This narrative is intensified by former band members' public disapproval and criticism of Lambesis’s alleged behavior. Although there’s no official confirmation of previous members’ return, their voices—especially those critiquing Lambesis—continue to echo within fan communities and discussions.
