In a historic milestone for live music, Radiohead has officially broken Metallica’s attendance record at London’s The O2 Arena, a record that had stood unchallenged since 2017.

A New Chapter for Radiohead

The breakthrough came during a four night stand on November 21, 22, 24, and 25, 2025, when Radiohead sold out each show and drew exceptionally large crowds. On each night, attendance exceeded 22,200 fans, culminating in a final performance that pulled in 22,355 concert goers, which is now the official record for single night attendance at the venue.

Metallica’s previous record, set in 2017, stood at 22,211 attendees over two nights. That number had become a benchmark for arena concerts at The O2 and remained untouched until Radiohead's return.

How They Did It

One contributing factor to the higher capacity was Radiohead’s use of an in the round staging configuration. This approach places the band in the center of the floor with fans surrounding the stage on all sides. The layout created approximately 6,000 additional standing floor spaces, allowing for a much larger audience than a traditional end stage configuration would permit.

Christian D’Acuna, Senior Programming Director of The O2, noted that these four nights will go down in the venue’s history. He added that the band delivered entirely different set lists each night, pulling from across their extensive back catalog.

Why the Record Matters

The achievement highlights the ongoing cultural power of Radiohead, who returned to London after a seven year touring hiatus and still generated massive demand. The shows were not only record breaking but also charitable. Each concert raised money for causes supporting grassroots music venues and mental health organizations including the UK based Samaritans.

What Comes Next

Radiohead’s 2025 European tour continues with shows in Copenhagen and Berlin. No North American dates have been announced at this time, but anticipation is building after the band's historic London run.

Radiohead’s record breaking performances at The O2 reaffirm their status as one of the most influential live acts of their generation. The new attendance milestone demonstrates the band's ability to evolve, innovate, and continue drawing huge audiences in a competitive touring landscape.
