The Mars Volta, the iconic progressive rock band led by guitarist/producer Omar Rodríguez-López and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, has announced a 2025 North American tour in conjunction with the release of their ninth studio album, “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos Del Vacio.” This release came in the wake of a highly unusual and arcane marketing strategy that saw the album leak months ahead of any official declaration, followed by live performances during their tour with Deftones. The band's decision to forgo the traditional release formula speaks to their adventurous artistic spirit, channeling a history of eclectic production and genre-blending innovations.

The Mars Volta's new album, “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos Del Vacio,” marks their latest effort to push the boundaries of their sound. Known for their unique sigil of experimental jazz, pop, and Latin influences, the album continues to move away from the intense post-hardcore prog-rock of earlier albums like “De-Loused in the Comatorium.” Instead, it showcases the evolving artistry of Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala as they explore new auditory territories. This complex soundscape is reflective of both the band's history and their journey toward renewing the effect of their music by balancing their roots with modern influences.

Not just the music, but the entire rollout of “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos Del Vacio” has been as enigmatic as The Mars Volta's musical history. Initially unannounced, with no singles released, the band elected to perform the entire album in concert rather than relying on typical media alerts. Their record label, Cloud Hills, broke the silence on the album's full existence just four days before its official appearance on streaming platforms and physical formats. The album's launch and tour announcement were, thus, akin to a well-timed crescendo that adds to the distinct narrative of the band's legacy.

The Mars Volta's fall tour encompasses various major cities across North America, starting in Dallas, Texas on October 25, and concluding in San Diego, California on November 29. The tour itinerary includes stops in major cities such as Houston, Miami Beach, Atlanta, Brooklyn, and Toronto. Throughout this tour, the band plans to continue expressing their dynamic live performances, featuring the entirety of the new album performed each night. This mode of presentation aligns with their method of connecting with fans vis-à-vis direct musical interaction rather than through intermediary promotional techniques.

This 2025 tour not only highlights The Mars Volta's latest musical endeavor but also maintains continuity following their hiatusbreak-ended 2022 reformation. After being dormant for nearly a decade, the band has re-entered the music scene with a renewed vigor. The tour, part of fulfilling a longer arc involving a lengthy hiatus and subsequent yet understated return, further cements The Mars Volta's transformation. Their return was previously heralded by a giant cube installation in Los Angeles, which played unreleased tracks. This distinctive and unorthodox strategy exemplifies their history of blending performance art with traditional music dissemination.
