The new leg opens September 12 in Los Angeles and closes November 28 in San Francisco, with tickets going on sale May 15.

Journey has expanded their ongoing Final Frontier farewell tour by 40 concerts, with the new dates running from September 12 in Los Angeles through November 28 in San Francisco. The additions come on top of a previously announced 28-show run that resumed May 15 in Tampa, Florida. Tickets for the fall dates go on sale Friday, May 15, at 10 A.M. local time, with a Citi cardholder presale opening Wednesday, May 11, at 10 A.M. local time.

A Massive Expansion of an Already Lengthy Run

The 40 newly announced concerts represent a significant deepening of what is already one of the more ambitious farewell tours in classic rock. Combined with the 28 shows already on the books, Journey will be on the road through nearly the entire second half of 2026. The fall leg opens at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on September 12 and closes at Chase Center in San Francisco on November 28, bringing the band back to their Bay Area home turf for the finale.

Guitarist Neal Schon addressed the expansion in a statement. “The energy has been incredible every night,” he said. “Seeing these crowds sing these songs with us after all these years has been powerful. We're excited to bring The Final Frontier Tour to even more cities this fall.” Keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who has said he plans to step away from the band in 2027 once the run is completed, added: “It's been an incredible ride. We've shared our music with millions and this tour is about gratitude, connection and one last chance to feel that magic together. We wouldn't want it any other way.”

Set List Surprises and Deep Cuts

Beyond the expected catalog of hits, Journey has been rotating in rarities that give even longtime fans something to chase. Most recently, the band performed “La Raza del Sol” for the first time in nearly a decade, an Escape-era track that originally served as the B-side to “Still They Ride.”

Other notable inclusions have been “After All These Years” from 2008's Revelation, “Line of Fire” from 1980's Departure, “Of a Lifetime” from their 1975 debut album, “Lovin' You is Easy” from 1979's Evolution (its first appearance since 1982), and “Patiently” from 1978's Infinity, which has only been performed a handful of times over the years. The rotating rarities strategy has become a genuine draw for fans who have seen the band multiple times across the tour.

Pineda Situation and the Steve Perry Question

The tour has not been without turbulence off stage. Arnel Pineda, who has fronted Journey since 2007, reportedly attempted to leave the band twice ahead of the tour's launch. Schon has denied knowledge of Pineda's concerns. The situation drew additional attention after Journey's scheduled appearance at Stagecoach Festival in California was cancelled due to dangerously high winds, prompting Pineda to post a cryptic message to fans that left his status uncertain.

Separately, speculation about a Steve Perry reunion surfaced ahead of the tour after Cain hinted that an olive branch had been extended to the former vocalist. Perry addressed the rumors directly on social media. “I've been hearing these recent rumors, and I wanted to speak to you all directly,” he wrote. “While I'm always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest.” Perry added that he is “continuing to explore new creative work” and enjoys “working on new music that reflects where I am today.”

The take

Journey's Final Frontier tour is shaping up to be one of the longest and most logistically ambitious farewell runs in classic rock history. With at least 68 dates now on the books and the band still adding legs, it invites comparison to the extended goodbye campaigns mounted by acts like Elton John, whose Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour stretched across five years, and Kiss, whose End of the Road tour similarly expanded well beyond its original scope. For Journey specifically, the scale makes sense: the band has never had a stable enough lineup to feel like a clean endpoint was possible, and the ongoing uncertainty around Pineda's commitment only underscores how complicated the band's internal dynamics remain. The rotating deep cuts in the set list, including tracks from the 1975 debut and songs unplayed since the early 1980s, suggest the band is treating this as a genuine retrospective rather than a hits-only victory lap, which tends to reward the most devoted segment of the fan base. Cain's announced 2027 departure adds a real deadline to proceedings that many farewell tours conspicuously lack. Whether that deadline holds is another matter; the genre has a long history of farewell tours that turned out to be anything but final. Still, the combination of a concrete endpoint, a massive production, and a set list that keeps evolving gives this run more credibility than most.

Why it matters

For classic rock fans, The Final Frontier tour represents a genuine last opportunity to see one of the genre's most commercially successful acts in an arena setting. Journey's catalog, built across the late 1970s and 1980s, remains a staple of radio and streaming, and the band's ability to fill arenas across North America and Canada in 2026 speaks to the enduring pull of that songbook. The tour's scale also signals that the demand for legacy rock live experiences remains strong, even as the generation of musicians who built those catalogs moves toward retirement.

What's next
