Nick Jonas is set to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in the highly anticipated biopic, “Shout It Out Loud”. Directed by Joseph McGinty Nichol, also known as McG, the film focuses on the formation and early years of the iconic rock band KISS during the 1970s. This casting choice has generated considerable interest, given Jonas's background as a member of the popular pop-rock band, the Jonas Brothers, and his emerging acting career.

The biopic aims to delve into the cultural and social backdrop that gave birth to KISS, exploring the band's journey from its inception up to a significant concert in a high school gym in Cadillac, Michigan. This was a pivotal moment that helped to elevate KISS into the public eye. Jonas, who has honed his acting skills in films such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Goat”, will perform his own vocals in the biopic, embodying Stanley’s unique style and presence. The film has been in development for several years and underwent changes from initially being a Netflix project to being backed by STX Entertainment, with production expected to start later this year or in early 2026.

The screenplay, crafted by Darren Lemke, known for his work on films like “Shazam!” and “Gemini Man”, will provide an in-depth look at the band's early struggles and triumphs. A notable aspect of this project is its ambition to capture the essence of KISS's trailblazing presence and its theatrical flair, which included elaborate costumes and pyrotechnics. Producers for the project include Stanley and Simmons themselves, along with Mark Canton, Gene Simmons, Don McGhee, and several others who will bring their expertise to ensure the film accurately portrays the legendary band's story.

While the casting for Gene Simmons is still ongoing, the producers have emphasized the importance of authenticity in the portrayal of these rock legends. As such, Jonas's selection to play Stanley is particularly intriguing, given his musical background and acting chops. This role not only marks another significant step in Jonas's acting career but also offers him a compelling opportunity to bridge his musical expertise with his growing filmography.

“Shout It Out Loud” arrives as KISS continues to be one of the most successful bands in rock history, with an impressive legacy of Gold Album Record Awards and a substantial influence on the rock genre. The band’s extravagant and daring style, coupled with their catchy, anthemic rock music, made them a cultural phenomenon. This film seeks to capture these elements and present them to a new generation of fans, offering insights into how a theatrical band of four musicians became rock and roll icons.

The film promises to be an engaging spectacle that revisits the kinetic energy and ethos of KISS. For Jonas, this role is both a challenge and a chance to shine as he channels Stanley—an icon who stood at the forefront of one of the most flamboyant bands in rock history. As casting continues for the remaining roles, and with production gearing up, anticipation is high for a depiction that will thrill fans and newcomers alike with its celebration of rock history.
