Remembering John Lennon | This Week in Music History
On December 8th 1980, the world lost a musical icon: John Lennon, a legendary singer and songwriter and 1/4 of inarguably the biggest band of all time. Lennon was shot and killed outside of his apartment inNew York City by an American Beatles fan named Mark David Chapman who had traveled there from Hawaii. Chapman stated that he was angered by Lennon's lifestyle and public statements especially his remark about the Beatles being “more popular than Jesus”, and the lyrics of his later songs “God” and “Imagine”. He made a decision that Lennon was a “phony” and planned the killing over the course of several months. With This Week in Music History, we take a moment to remember Lennon who fellow Beatle Ringo Starr described as a “beautiful man”.
