Joe Keery, best known for his role in the hit series Stranger Things, has been making waves in the music industry under the moniker Djo. His recently released single, “Potion,” serves as a tantalizing preview for his upcoming album, The Crux, slated for release on April 4. Keery has a long history in music, beginning in his teenage years, gaining recognition with the psych-rock band Post Animal in Chicago. However, his solo ventures have drawn even more attention. Keery's debut as Djo came in 2019 with the album Twenty Twenty and was followed by DECIDE in 2022, both showcasing his eclectic style and evolving sound.

The single “Potion” captures the essence of what Keery refers to as a personal comfort zone, akin to a favorite pair of blue jeans. This comforting yet innovative track features Keery's mastery over multiple instruments—an acoustic and falsetto-led composition where he plays the electric guitar, bass, drums, percussion, and Mellotron, in addition to providing vocals. His self-reliance in the recording studio is evident as he single-handedly performs most elements of the track, a trend consistent with the entirety of The Crux. Influences from artists such as Harry Nilsson and Lindsey Buckingham can be sensed in the intricate Travis picking style employed in this composition, illustrating Keery's diverse musical capabilities.

The anticipation for Djo's new album is heightened by the announcement of a comprehensive tour supporting “The Crux.” The tour kicks off with sold-out shows across North America and Europe, a testament to the rising popularity of Keery's musical persona. Important stops include Lollapalooza in Chicago and prestigious venues such as London's O2 Forum Kentish Town. The tour is not just a series of performances; it's a celebration of Keery's artistic journey, drawing crowds who are eager to experience his creativity live. Each concert promises to be a comprehensive showcase of his new album, with a setlist featuring tracks like “Lonesome Is A State of Mind” and “Crux,” alongside previously released favorites.

Keery's evolution from an actor to a musician garners attention not only from fans of “Stranger Things” but also from music enthusiasts who appreciate the authentic and innovative approach he takes in his music. His background in musical performance, combined with his ability to embody various roles, allows him to bring a deep, emotional resonance to his songs. Critics and fans alike are eager to see how his acting chops and musical dexterity will continue to blend and evolve with “The Crux,” offering a fresh perspective and deeper immersion into his artistic world.
