The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is set to honor the cultural phenomenon that is Saturday Night Live (SNL) with a new exhibit showcasing the show's significant musical legacy. Entitled “SNL: Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of Music,” this immersive experience is a celebration of the intersection between groundbreaking live music performances and late-night comedy. Opening on May 23, 2025, the exhibit is expected to draw music and comedy aficionados from all over, offering both in-person and virtual experiences.

Integral to the exhibit's appeal is its homage to the numerous iconic musical performances that have graced the SNL stage over half a century. Visitors will be treated to state-of-the-art video installations that capture the magic of musical performances by renowned artists such as U2, Nirvana, Sinead O’Connor, Blondie, Run-DMC, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus. The exhibit also pays tribute to the numerous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees who have added their legendary acts to SNL's storied history. Alongside these performances, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson's acclaimed documentary will be featured in a 20-minute segment, portraying SNL's profound impact on music and vice versa.

The exhibit takes visitors on a journey that mirrors the actual flow of the SNL show, starting with a recreation of the cold open, leading to the home base stage, and concluding with an homage to the show's “Goodnights” segment. It offers an immersive exploration of Studio 8H, the original home to SNL, complete with historical backdrops for fans to peruse and enjoy. This structure not only highlights musical performances but also includes the comedic sketches for which the show is famous. Costumes and props from beloved sketches such as The Blues Brothers and The Sweeney Sisters will be on display, forming a narrative that combines humor with music.

Emphasizing both the historical and cultural significance of the show's music, the exhibit also features select pieces of memorabilia, including costumes, photographs, and other artifacts. A unique feature of the exhibit is its SNL 50 photo booth, allowing visitors to capture their own SNL-style portraits, modeled after the bumpers shot by photographers Edie Baskin and Mary Ellen Matthews.

For a truly comprehensive experience, the exhibit also introduces a first-ever digital companion and guidebook, enhancing accessibility through bilingual translations in both English and Spanish. This innovative approach ensures that a wider audience can engage with the SNL experience, whether they are physically at the museum or exploring online. Greg Harris, CEO of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, expresses enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the unique blend of comedy and music SNL has brought to audiences worldwide for five decades.

As the opening date approaches, anticipation builds around this groundbreaking exhibit that not only celebrates SNL's musical history but also incorporates a virtual experience to cater to a global audience. Tickets are available for purchase online, inviting patrons to participate in this uniquely curated event. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's collaboration with SNL promises an unforgettable, multi-faceted exploration of the show's impact on both the musical landscape and pop culture at large.
