Neil Young's forthcoming album, Coastal: The Soundtrack set to be released on April 18, will coincide with a unique documentary film. This project is a significant milestone as it encapsulates Young’s return to live performance after several years of absence from the stage due to the global pandemic. This 11-song album captures the essence of Young's 2023 solo tour and provides fans a glimpse of his deep engagement with music spanning over six decades.

The soundtrack features a mix of Neil Young's classics, including “I'm The Ocean,” “Love Earth,” and “Vampire Blues,” among others. Recorded live during his solo tour in various cities, the album showcases Young's raw and intimate performances, characterized by his own play on guitar, piano, and harmonica. Fans can expect poignant renditions of tracks such as “Expecting To Fly” and “Don't Forget Love,” marking the nostalgic return of several songs Young has rarely performed live over the years. This album not only revives some of Young’s diverse repertoire but also introduces new emotional depths to familiar tracks, resonating with audiences as the world navigates a post-pandemic reality.

Coastal will be made available in multiple formats, including digital, CD, black vinyl, and a special edition clear vinyl that comes with an exclusive poster, only available through The Greedy Hand Store and other select retailers. The emphasis on high-resolution digital audio quality is a noticeable aspect of this release, reflecting Young’s commitment to superior sound fidelity.

Central to this release is the documentary accompanying the album, directed by Young's wife, actress and filmmaker Daryl Hannah. The film offers an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the 2023 U.S. tour. Brought to audiences by Trafalgar Releasing, the film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on April 17, providing viewers with a candid glimpse into Young's life on the road. This documentary is not just a chronicle of tour performances; it is a poignant reflection on Young’s journey and the rich tapestry of his musical legacy. It captures Young as he reconnects with his audience and offers an insight into his life off-stage, allowing fans a rare peek into his personal experiences during the tour. T

Hannah’s creative direction is pivotal in this project, as she captures the unseen emotional and procedural aspects of Young’s tour. The film documents the creative process and personal reflections of one of rock music's most revered figures, adding depth to the overarching narrative of Young’s historic career. Her unique perspective as both an accomplished filmmaker and Young’s spouse brings a nuanced visual storytelling that enhances the concert experience captured on the album.

This release also marks just one of many projects that Neil Young has in the pipeline for 2025. Alongside this project, Young has announced a world tour with his new band, Chrome Hearts, and new singles reflecting his ever-evolving musical endeavors. Young’s dedication to his craft and his adaptability, as evidenced by his readiness to engage with both live audiences and cinematic storytelling, underpins his status as a living legend. His dynamic presence both on stage and in film underscores a renewed vigor for performing and creating, embodying the timeless spirit of rock and roll interwoven with personal introspection.
