Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) have announced a groundbreaking venture with their North American “The Catacombs Tour” scheduled for fall 2025. This tour will be a series of exclusive, one-night-only performances held at some of the most historic theaters across North America. The tour is a significant departure from QOTSA’s typical concert format, as it is inspired by their recent cinematic and musical project, “Alive in the Catacombs.” This project was recorded in the Catacombs of Paris and was a unique experience featuring a stripped-down version of the band paired with a three-piece string section, augmented by unconventional percussion instruments such as chains and chopsticks.

The announcement of “The Catacombs Tour” comes in the wake of the band's acclaimed cinematic project, which captured the essence of their unique sound and atmosphere within the underground ossuaries of Paris. This project was notable for its reverent use of the Catacombs' natural acoustics, integrating the ambient sounds of dripping water and resonance, providing an unforgettable backdrop for their live recordings. “Alive in the Catacombs” marks a significant pivot to a more introspective and stripped-down musical journey, reflecting the physical space's grandeur and historical weight.

The tour will follow the conceptual threads established by “Alive in the Catacombs,” featuring new arrangements specially crafted for the performance’s unique theatrical settings. The band aims to offer fans a pioneering auditory and visual experience wherein the intensity of the music can be dynamically adjusted, promising to “twist the volume knob in both directions.” This adds a theatrical element to the tour, transforming it into an immersive, sensory experience rather than just a concert. Attendees are even encouraged to dress in a manner that matches the evening's grandeur, echoing the dramatic ambiance that the music and setting will collectively create.

The confirmed tour dates include stops in major cities such as Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston, New York, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, and New Orleans. Each location is a handpicked historic theater that complements the tour's sophisticated atmosphere. This selection underscores the tour's blend of musical and historical celebration, enhancing the overall experience by transforming the venue into an active participant in the evening's performance.

Tickets for the tour will go on sale beginning June 27, with an artist presale set for June 24 via Ticketmaster, using the code “ALIVE25.” To further engage their audience, QOTSA has promised that UK and European dates will soon follow, broadening the tour's international appeal and allowing their global fanbase the opportunity to experience this new chapter in QOTSA's journey.

The band has always been at the forefront of musical innovation, and “The Catacombs Tour” is a testament to their enduring commitment to evolving their artistry in unexpected ways. This tour not only revisits fan-favorite songs but reinterprets them through the lens provided by their Catacombs experience, marking a return to the roots of unpredictability and creativity that have defined the band's ethos. Fans eagerly anticipating these performances can expect an evening where music and environment coalesce into an experience that promises to be both intimately personal and grandly theatrical.
