The Beatles legend, Paul McCartney, is actively advocating for the induction of the late blues-rock singer Joe Cocker into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Known for his distinctive voice and unique stage presence, Cocker's candidacy is supported by McCartney through a heartfelt letter addressed to the Rock Hall's voting members. McCartney emphatically highlights Cocker's tremendous contributions to the music industry, particularly his iconic rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends,” which McCartney originally co-wrote with fellow Beatle, John Lennon. This cover by Cocker achieved significant acclaim, hitting the number one spot in the UK charts and becoming a defining moment of the famed Woodstock Festival in 1969.

In his letter, McCartney points out that while Cocker may not have actively sought this recognition during his lifetime, it would be a fitting tribute for a man who has contributed so much to rock music. This appeal is not McCartney's first endeavor in rallying for fellow artists to be celebrated within the Hall; he previously lobbied for the band Foreigner, which successfully resulted in their induction

Cocker is one of several first-time nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025, standing alongside other notable acts such as Outkast, Billy Idol, and Mariah Carey. Despite being eligible since 1994, this marks Cocker's first nomination, amplifying the significance of McCartney's support. The Hall of Fame ceremony, set to take place in Los Angeles in the fall, promises to celebrate a new class of storied musicians, with nominations decided by an international panel of over a thousand artists, historians, and industry professionals.
