Foo Fighters to Open for AC/DC in St. Louis, Stepping In for The Pretty Reckless
Foo Fighters announced on Thursday, August 20, that they will pause their “Take Cover” stadium tour for a single night to serve as the opening act for AC/DC’s September 8 concert at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The band is filling the slot previously held by The Pretty Reckless, fronted by Taylor Momsen, who had been AC/DC’s regular support act on the North American leg of the tour.
- The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis holds 67,000 fans.
- Tickets for the September 8 show are already available through LiveNation.com.
- A Billboard request to The Pretty Reckless for an explanation of the lineup change had not been answered as of press time.
- The St. Louis show is a one-off detour, not a permanent change to Foo Fighters’ tour schedule.
Why Dave Grohl Calls the AC/DC Show a “Dream Come True”
Dave Grohl shared a lengthy Instagram post explaining what the pairing means to him personally. He wrote that AC/DC’s 1980 concert film “Let There Be Rock” first showed him what a live rock performance could be, describing the night he watched it at age eleven at the Uptown Theater in Washington, D.C. alongside his best friend, Larry Hinkle.
Grohl said the September 8 date will mark the first time Foo Fighters have shared a stage with AC/DC since that childhood movie experience. “This is literally a dream come true,” he wrote, adding, “Let there be f**king rock, St Louis. See you September 8th.”
Grohl has spoken about AC/DC’s influence on him before. In a March 2021 interview on “Anders Bøtters Tiny TV,” he described meeting the band for the first time after a Grammys ceremony, when Paul McCartney arranged for AC/DC to join a dinner he was already having with Foo Fighters. Following the November 2017 death of AC/DC founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, Grohl posted a tribute recalling that same 1980 screening of “Let There Be Rock” with Hinkle at the Uptown Theater.
Foo Fighters’ Surrounding Tour Schedule
The St. Louis appearance falls in the middle of a packed run for Foo Fighters. The band closed out a leg of North American stadium shows with a three-hour concert at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Monday, August 17.
- August 22: Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, California
- September 4: Rock in Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- September 8: The Dome at America’s Center, St. Louis, Missouri (opening for AC/DC)
- September 12: Fargodome, Fargo, North Dakota
Foo Fighters’ most recent album, “Your Favorite Toy,” was released in April via Roswell Records and RCA Records. The record was co-produced by the band with Oliver Roman, who also handled engineering duties, while Mark “Spike” Stent mixed the album. Its release lined up with the start of the “Take Cover” world tour.
