John Butler, the renowned Australian musician, is poised for an impactful return with the release of his new solo album, “PRISM”. This record signifies a major shift for Butler, as it sees him stepping away from the John Butler Trio to pursue a solo endeavor. “PRISM” is slated for release on September 5, 2025, and fans have been given a taste of what's to come with the album's second single, “So Sorry,” which was unveiled on May 28.

“PRISM” marks the third installment of Butler's ambitious “Four Seasons” project, joining the previously released albums “Running River” and “Still Searching,” both of which debuted in 2024. The new album is a collaboration with producer James Ireland, known for his work with POND and San Cisco. The pair have shared the responsibilities of instrumentation and production, crafting an album that is both personal and expansive.

The album promises a rich tapestry of sounds, blending Butler's signature percussive guitar style with a broader sonic palette that includes groove-heavy rock and introspective ballads. Butler has described “PRISM” as a cathartic release, a celebration of his journey away from the familiar Trio dynamic, and a continued exploration of his evolving musical path. Central themes of the album include love, death, politics, personal turmoil, and ultimately, redemption.

One of the notable tracks, “So Sorry”, delves into the complexities of long-term relationships, articulating the journey from youthful innocence to mature companionship, with all the missteps and learnings along the way. It underscores the emotional depth that Butler is known for, resonating with listeners on a deeply personal level.

In addition to new music, Butler's stage presence remains formidable. Having performed at Bluesfest earlier in the year, he is set to embark on an extensive U.S. tour this summer, with dates spanning June to August, and Australian concerts anticipated later in the year.

“PRISM” is more than just a collection of songs; it's a reflection of Butler's personal transformations and a testament to his resilience as an artist. Critics have lauded the album for its emotional resonance and musical innovation. The album is accessible for pre-save and pre-order, highlighting the anticipation surrounding its release.

Butler is also set to perform in the UK, with tour dates confirmed for October and November, playing at renowned venues including London’s Troxy and the O2 Ritz in Manchester. This stripped-down tour format aims to connect Butler more intimately with his audience, offering a heartfelt experience without the trappings of large-scale productions.

This release is a fresh chapter for Butler, showcasing his prowess as a solo artist while reaffirming his status as a key figure in the independent music realm. Whether a long-time fan or a new listener, “PRISM” is set to captivate and resonate, reflecting the comprehensive “bandwidth” of the human experience through Butler's distinctive lens.
