See The Black Crowes New Video for “Profane Prophecy”

Screencap from Profane Prophecy Video

The Black Crowes have released a striking new music video for their latest single, “Profane Prophecy,” leaning into dark symbolism and theatrical imagery as they continue the rollout for their upcoming album A Pound of Feathers.

The video, which premiered this week, places the band inside a distorted, almost fairytale-like world filled with devilish figures and exaggerated visual motifs. Rather than telling a straightforward story, the clip unfolds as a series of unsettling tableaus that reflect the song’s themes of temptation, contradiction, and inner conflict.

According to frontman Chris Robinson, “Profane Prophecy” explores the forces people recognize in themselves and those they try to ignore. That tension is echoed throughout the video, which juxtaposes performance shots with symbolic scenes that suggest moral struggle rather than offering literal answers.

Directed by Dagger Polyester, the video favors a raw, tactile approach over digital gloss. Practical effects, stylized costumes, and deliberately artificial sets give the project a handmade feel, drawing inspiration from classic exploitation cinema and underground art rather than modern high-budget music video trends. The result is visually abrasive at times, but intentionally so.

“Profane Prophecy” is the lead single from A Pound of Feathers, the band’s follow-up to 2024’s Happiness Bastards. Produced by Jay Joyce, the new album is expected to continue The Black Crowes’ blues-based rock foundation while venturing into darker and more experimental territory. Early previews suggest a heavier emotional tone than the band’s recent work.

The release arrives as The Black Crowes prepare for a busy year that includes international touring and major support slots. While the band has spent recent years reconnecting with its classic sound, the new video suggests a group more interested in creative risk than comfort.

For longtime fans, “Profane Prophecy” feels like a reminder that The Black Crowes have never been content to simply replay their past. Instead, the band continues to challenge expectations, using unsettling imagery and provocative themes to signal that their next chapter is as unpredictable as ever.
