A new documentary chronicling Eddie Vedder’s long-running effort to fund research into epidermolysis bullosa is now available to a global audience.

The film, Matter of Time, began streaming worldwide on Netflix on February 9, 2026, following a festival debut last year. The release marks the widest distribution yet for a project centered on Vedder’s advocacy and the families living with the rare genetic skin disease.

From festival premiere to streaming release

Matter of Time had its world premiere on June 12, 2025, at the Tribeca Festival in New York City. Vedder attended the screening and performed an acoustic set tied to the premiere. After additional festival screenings and a limited theatrical run in late 2025, the documentary made the jump to Netflix this week, placing it in front of millions of subscribers.

A rare disease brought into focus

Epidermolysis bullosa, commonly referred to as EB, is a group of inherited disorders that cause the skin to blister and tear from minimal contact. In severe cases, the condition leads to chronic wounds, infections, and serious complications, particularly in children. There is currently no cure.

Vedder’s involvement began after a close family connection to the disease, and in 2010 he and his wife Jill Vedder co-founded the EB Research Partnership. The organization has since grown into the largest private funder of EB research, supporting projects aimed at developing treatments and advancing clinical trials.

Inside Matter of Time

The documentary draws heavily from Vedder’s October 2023 solo benefit concerts at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, which were staged to raise funds for EB research. Performance footage is interwoven with interviews featuring patients, caregivers, scientists, and clinicians working to translate laboratory research into therapies.

The film also examines the EB Research Partnership’s venture philanthropy model, which focuses on accelerating research toward practical medical outcomes rather than traditional one-time grants. That approach has helped support several major advances, including work connected to the first FDA-approved gene therapy treatment for EB.

How to watch

Matter of Time is now streaming on Netflix, where it is available on smart TVs, computers, tablets, and mobile devices. Netflix subscribers can also download the film for offline viewing in regions where that option is supported.

Why the release matters now

With its arrival on a major streaming platform, Matter of Time brings rare disease advocacy into the mainstream at a time when interest in genetic and targeted therapies continues to grow. For Vedder and the EB community, the film’s release is intended to drive awareness and sustain momentum for research that remains urgent for families living with the condition.
