Singer songwriter Jackson Browne has announced with profound sorrow the passing of his son, actor, model, and musician Ethan Browne, who died at the age of 52. The news was shared on November 26, 2025 through a statement on Browne’s official social media accounts. The family requested privacy as they process their grief.

A Talented Life Cut Short

Ethan Browne was found unresponsive at his home on the morning of November 25, 2025. No cause of death has been released, and authorities have not provided further details.

Born in 1973 to Jackson Browne and actress and model Phyllis Major, Ethan entered the public eye as an infant when he appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1974.

As an adult, he built a multifaceted career in entertainment. His acting credits included roles in the 1995 film Hackers and the 2004 film Raising Helen, along with an appearance on the television series Birds of Prey. He also worked as a model and pursued music. Ethan co founded Spinside Records under his father’s independent label and more recently performed in a musical duo called Alain Zane.

A Family Marked by Loss and Defined by Devotion

Ethan’s early life was shaped by tragedy. His mother, Phyllis Major, died by suicide in March 1976 when he was still a toddler. Jackson Browne then raised Ethan on his own.

Over the years, Jackson often spoke about the importance of fatherhood and how raising Ethan defined his life. In a 2021 interview, he said that his two goals were songwriting and parenthood and that being a father was his main focus.

In recent interviews, Jackson expressed deep pride in Ethan’s growth as a man, a father, and an artist. He described Ethan as a great father, a great son, and a great man and spoke warmly about watching him with his children.

A Loss Felt Across Music and Film

News of Ethan Browne’s death has led to an outpouring of condolences from fans and from those who worked with him in film, modeling, and music. Many have shared memories of his kindness, creativity, and talent.

At this time, the Browne family has not announced plans for a public memorial. The statement released by Jackson Browne emphasized the family’s need for privacy as they mourn.
