John Paul Jones, the bassist and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Led Zeppelin, is auctioning off a substantial collection of personal studio equipment, giving fans and collectors rare access to gear used throughout his long and influential career.

The online auction is being organized by Soundgas, a United Kingdom based company that specializes in vintage and professional recording equipment. The sale includes keyboards, synthesizers, amplifiers, effects units, rack gear, and studio tools that Jones accumulated and used across multiple decades of recording and performance.

According to the auction organizer, Jones decided to part with the equipment because it is no longer in regular use and he prefers that the gear be returned to active creative environments rather than stored. Many of the items were purchased new by Jones and maintained as part of his personal studio setup.

The collection reflects Jones’ wide-ranging musical output beyond Led Zeppelin, including his work as a session musician, arranger, composer, and collaborator. While the auction does not claim the items were used on specific Led Zeppelin recordings, the equipment represents the working tools of an artist whose musical fingerprints are embedded throughout the band’s catalog.

Jones played a central role in shaping Led Zeppelin’s sound, contributing not only bass lines but also keyboards, orchestral arrangements, and structural ideas that helped define albums such as Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti. His technical versatility and understated presence made him one of rock music’s most respected musicians.

The auction has drawn international attention from musicians, collectors, and fans interested in historically significant studio gear connected to classic rock history. Additional lots are being released throughout the sale period, with bidding open worldwide.

The auction runs through mid-January, with full item listings and bidding details available at the organizer’s website.
