Foo Fighters teamed up with Taylor Momsen for one of the most talked-about moments of Grammy Week, bringing together modern rock power and unexpected musical history in a performance that surprised even longtime fans.

The collaboration took place at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala, where Foo Fighters joined Momsen on stage as part of the celebration honoring Mariah Carey. Instead of drawing from Carey’s well known pop catalog, the group performed songs from her largely forgotten mid-1990s grunge recordings, originally created under the pseudonym band name Chick.

Momsen, best known as the frontwoman of The Pretty Reckless, handled lead vocals with a raw and commanding delivery that fit naturally alongside Foo Fighters’ heavy, guitar-driven sound. The performance reintroduced tracks like “Hermit” and “Love Is a Scam,” songs that have gained cult status among fans aware of Carey’s brief and secretive dive into alternative rock.

The moment stood out as a rare cross-genre collaboration that felt authentic rather than novelty driven. Foo Fighters leaned into their grunge roots while allowing Momsen’s dark vocal edge to lead the way, creating a performance that felt both respectful to the source material and energized by reinterpretation.

Carey herself was in attendance and appeared visibly delighted, singing along from the audience as the performance unfolded. Her reaction helped underscore the spirit of the night, which focused on artistic range and creative risk rather than genre boundaries.

For Foo Fighters, the collaboration reinforced the band’s continued willingness to experiment and engage with unexpected material. For Momsen, it marked a high-profile moment that showcased her vocal power on one of music’s most prestigious industry stages.

The performance quickly became one of the most widely discussed highlights of Grammy Week, sparking renewed interest in Mariah Carey’s grunge era while demonstrating how rock artists from different generations can find common ground through shared musical curiosity.
