Genesis Reunite for Deluxe Reissue of 1969 Debut ‘From Genesis to Revelation’

Live concert of Peter Gabriel at the Alcatraz

Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford reunited at London’s Air Studios earlier this year to film reminiscences of Genesis’s 1969 debut album, From Genesis to Revelation. The record is being reissued through Cherry Red Records on October 9 in a remixed and remastered deluxe edition.

Along with original guitarist Anthony Phillips, Gabriel, Banks and Rutherford oversaw the new reissue. It will be released in three formats: a deluxe five-disc CD/Blu-ray box set, a double vinyl edition, and a remixed and remastered two-CD edition.

What’s New on the From Genesis to Revelation Reissue

The centerpiece of the reissue is a new stereo mix by Stephen W Tayler, who has shifted the balance of the record toward the band’s performances and away from the orchestral arrangements that dominated the original 1969 release.

  • The five-disc set includes newly remastered versions of the original mono and stereo LP mixes, associated singles, and rare recordings.
  • A full disc of demos from 1967 and 1968 is included, with four of those demos previously unreleased and newly mixed by Stephen W Tayler.
  • The Blu-ray disc carries 96 kHz / 24-bit Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround Sound and stereo mixes.
  • The box set includes exclusive video of Banks, Gabriel and Rutherford in conversation at AIR Studios, reflecting on the album and reviewing the new mixes.
  • A 68-page illustrated book featuring an extensive essay with contributions from Banks, Gabriel, Phillips and Rutherford is also included.
  • The double vinyl edition comes with a bonus 12-inch EP featuring new mixes of “A Winter’s Tale,” “One Eyed Hound,” “Image Blown Out” and the previously unreleased “Visions of Angels.”
