The six-night floating prog festival sails April 2–8 out of Miami aboard the Norwegian Jewel, with general booking opening June 8.

Kansas, Asia, and former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett will co-headline the 2027 edition of Cruise to the Edge, the annual floating prog-rock festival now expanded to six nights. The event sails April 2, 8 aboard the Norwegian Jewel out of Miami, with stops in Cozumel, Harvest Caye, and Costa Maya. Cabins are currently on sale for past alumni, with general booking opening Monday, June 8 at noon ET.

A Stacked Lineup Spanning Classic and Contemporary Prog

The 2027 edition maintains the event’s tradition of mixing legacy acts with newer progressive voices. Returning artists include Big Big Train, Haken, Pendragon, Spock’s Beard, Neal Morse & the Resonance, Caligula’s Horse, Temic, Crown Lands, Thank You Scientist, Von Hertzen Brothers, Moon Safari, Jane Getter Premonition, Rendezvous Point, Lari Basilio, Gazpacho, Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins, Dave Cureton, Dave Kerzner and Friends, Marbin, and Gabriel Agudo.

First-timers joining the festival include the Dear Hunter, Lunatic Soul, Voyage 35, Ozric Tentacles, Cheeto’s Magazine, Haunt the Woods, Spafford, and Dim Gray. The full roster spans symphonic prog, experimental alt-rock, and adventurous metal, reflecting the breadth the event has cultivated over its run.

As in recent years, the cruise will be co-hosted by Jon Kirkman, Roie Avin, and Mike Dawson. Beyond the concerts staged across the ship’s various venues, the festival will include artist-fan photo experiences, intimate Q&A sessions, theme nights, games, late-night karaoke, and other activities.

Following a Strong 2026 and Connecting to On the Blue Cruise

The 2027 announcement follows a well-regarded 2026 edition highlighted by three former members of King Crimson: singer-guitarist Adrian Belew, bassist Tony Levin, and drummer Bill Bruford. That kind of marquee prog pedigree has become a calling card for the event.

Notably, the Norwegian Jewel will host a second rock-themed festival immediately after Cruise to the Edge concludes. On the Blue Cruise 2027 is set to sail April 8, 15, also out of Miami. Asia will appear at that event as well, alongside Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, Rick Springfield, and Don Felder, formerly of the Eagles, among others.

How to Book

Cabins aboard the Norwegian Jewel are currently available to past Cruise to the Edge alumni. General booking opens Monday, June 8 at noon ET. Full details and reservations are available through the Cruise to the Edge website.

The take

Cruise to the Edge has quietly become one of the most reliable annual events on the prog calendar, and the 2027 lineup underscores why. Landing Kansas, Steve Hackett, and Asia simultaneously is a genuine coup. Kansas remains one of the most active legacy prog-rock acts in North America, consistently drawing strong crowds. Hackett’s solo catalog and his ongoing Genesis Revisited touring project give him a devoted following that overlaps almost perfectly with the cruise’s core audience. Asia, the supergroup originally built from members of Yes, King Crimson, ELP, and the Buggles, carries enormous symbolic weight in the prog world even as its lineup has evolved over the decades.

Expanding to six nights also signals confidence. Rock-themed cruises have grown steadily as a format since events like Moody Blues Cruise and the various ShipRocked sailings proved the model viable in the 2000s and 2010s. The captive-audience setting allows for the kind of extended artist access, including Q&As and photo sessions, that a standard festival simply cannot replicate. That intimacy has become a key selling point for prog fans who want more than a concert.

The back-to-back scheduling with On the Blue Cruise 2027 on the same ship is a smart logistical play, maximizing the Norwegian Jewel’s time at sea and giving artists like Asia a reason to make the trip for two engagements. For fans, it also raises the possibility of extended itineraries across both sailings.

Why it matters

For prog-rock fans, Cruise to the Edge represents one of the few remaining spaces where the genre’s full spectrum, from 1970s arena veterans to contemporary experimental acts, gets treated as a serious headlining draw rather than a nostalgia sideshow. The 2027 lineup’s combination of Kansas, Hackett, and Asia alongside newer names like Caligula’s Horse and the Dear Hunter reflects a curatorial approach that keeps the event relevant to multiple generations of listeners. That balance is increasingly rare in classic rock festival programming.
